An Astounding Tour To Santa Katharina
Tour plan:
Gathering at 22:00 pm (the hotels).
We will get organized and cross the border with a guide; A representative from the company will wait for us At the Egyptian terminus.
We will have a journey to Mt. Sinai (air conditioning include), and climb the mountain to watch the sunrise.
After sunrise we will visit the ancient Santa Katharina monastery; Tthe monastery has always been one of the hidden places of Christianity, among its secrets: old handwritings, old books and scrolls that the Christianity tried for many years to hide from the world.
As it was in earlier times; in order to visit, one needed to present letters of credentials, and would be hoisted into the monastery with an elevator. The monastery is famous for a number of reasons. Tischendorf discovered the Codex Sinaiticus, (a story by itself), and many icons some as old as from the 6 th century have been preserved. The mosaic of the transfiguration behind the iconostasis in the church is certainly another masterpiece.
After a break we will ride back to Taba.
The Tour includes: a local guide; climbing the Sinai Mountain; visiting Santa Katharina monastery.
Very important:
On Fridays and Sundays the monastery is closed for visitors.
Private Equipment: breakfast; climbing shows; water; a valid passport; warm clothes
(it gets cold on top of Mt. Sinai, even in summer nights).
